Daniel Ebenyo has opened up about his future on the track and representing the country next season.

Reigning world 10,000m silver medallist Daniel Simiu Ebenyo has answered the most asked question about his career going forward.

Ebenyo has been seen gracing road races and cross-country races but has competed sparingly in track races, hence raising the question about his future when it comes to the track. Daniel Ebenyo even made a huge career milestone, debuting in the full marathon in Chicago where he finished an impressive fifth.

The Kenyan distance sensation noted that he is uncertain about his future on the track but also clarified that he still has unfinished business. He wanted to compete at the Paris Olympic Games but unfortunately missed out after falling during the 10,000m trials at the Prefontaine Classic.

Daniel Ebenyo insisted that he was in the shape of his life and would have won Kenya a medal in the 25-lap race but was denied an opportunity.

No Kenyan made it to the podium in the race, with Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda claiming the win. Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi and Grant Fisher of the United States finished second and third respectively.

He revealed that come next year, if all goes well, he will participate in the trials of the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. He added that his management usually plans his events.

“About the track, I don’t know much but I still have unfinished business there because I missed the Olympic Games. I fell but I was in the best shape of my life and if I had gone to the Olympic Games, I promise I would have come back with a medal and maybe it was not planned for me but I’m happy for those who went there and did well,” Daniel Simiu said.

“Next season, I’ll be there and if we can cooperate I will run the track but if not, I wish them all the best. My schedule is my management’s business and I can’t say I will run tomorrow because I was just coming here for the buildup and see if I have the speed.”

After making his full marathon debut, Daniel Ebenyo expressed confidence that he will post faster times in the coming years after working on his technique. In Chicago, he finished fifth in a time of 2:06:04.

Simiu was speaking after dominating the senior men’s race at the Athletics Kenya fourth weekend meet in Bomet.

“I feel motivated because this is just a build-up for next year and I’m happy for my debut in Chicago and maybe some few years to come, I will run a good time and a great position,” he revealed.
