Coach Peter Bii has revealed who contributed to Beatrice Chebet's record-breaking 2024 season, saying he 'put the ice on the cake.'

It’s always said it takes a village to raise a child and Peter Bii, Beatrice Chebet’s coach could not agree more to this.

Beatrice Chebet has been in the best shape of her life in 2024 and her new coach, Peter Bii, believes the efforts of her previous coaches played a huge role in how her season turned out.

Bii took over as Chebet’s coach and together, they have been making waves with world records and wins. This was unlike her the previous seasons where she was only as good as a silver or bronze medal.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Kenya, Peter Bii admitted that coaching an athlete to such great levels is not a walk in the park but he noted that Chebet’s previous coaches did the most work and he lauded them for that.

“This year, we started the preparations a bit early…I was not coaching Beatrice when she won the bronze medal and the silver in Budapest and Oregon. I respect the people who came before me, those who were walking with her before me, that is Paul Kemei and Gabriel Kiptanui. They did an amazing job and for me, I just put the ice on the cake,” Peter Bii said.

“We started the preparations at the start of the season and the most important goal we had was making the team for the Olympic Games and getting a medal. We had intermediate calls, that was the 5km world record in Barcelona and then we went for the World Cross, and defending that title was very important.”

Making the Olympic team was in the plan as they started the season and luckily, Chebet secured slots in the 5000m and 10,000m. She went on to shock the world with her prowess, winning gold in both distances.

Beatrice Chebet was impressive in the build-up to the Olympics, shattering the 5km world record on New Year’s Eve. Chebet also defended her world cross country title at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

She then broke the 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic before also securing a 5000m slot with a second-place finish behind Faith Kipyegon at the Kenyan Olympic trials.

After the Olympics, the world 5000m bronze medallist was also impressive as she claimed top honours at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich where she set a world lead. Beatrice Chebet rounded up her track season with a win at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
