The American sprint legend has sought to end his beef with Olympics long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall after addressing concerns over field events missing at Grand Slam Track.
Former Olympics champion and 400m world record holder Michael Johnson has responded to the criticism he received over the absence of field events from his Grand Slam Track.
The US sprint legend is the man behind the new athletics event set to take place this year in Kingston, Jamaica (April 4-6), Miami (May 2-4), Philadelphia (May 30-June 1) and Los Angeles (June 27-29) with cash rewards of $100,000 for winners of each discipline per meet.
However, there will be no field events at Grand Slam Track which will have short sprints (100 m/200 m), short hurdles (100H or 110H/100 m), long sprints (200 m/400 m), long hurdles (400H/400 m), short distance (800 m/1500 m), or long distance (3000 m/5000 m).

US sprint icon Michael Johnson has moved to address some of the concerns raised by Noah Lyles and Co over his Grand Slam Track while defending the status of those who have signed up.
That decision that drew the ire of Olympics long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall and her husband Hunter Woodhall, who criticized Johnson for not respecting field events, and the sprint icon muddied the waters further when he claimed: “I think I can save track, I don't think I can save track and field."
Davis-Woodhall would fire back, telling him: “Michael, you are ruining the sport if you are trying to save just track…it’s track and field for a reason.”
Looking to start the new year on a clean slate, Johnson has moved to address some of the concerns, giving reasons why Grand Slam Track did not include field events in its roster, but remaining positive of changes in the future.

A furious Tara Davis-Woodhall and her husband Hunter Woodhall have blasted Michael Johnson over his comments on why he snubbed field events in his Grand Slam Track League.
“Field events. I love track AND field! My mission is to elevate the sport. I am confident that our team can help to do that with GST [Grand Slam Track]. There are great field athletes with amazing stories,” Johnson posted on X.
“If there is someone who wants to take on the similar challenge as we are doing with track, I would be interested in investing and happy to share our learnings from $1M of research and make introductions to our investors.
“Our mission is to lift the entire sport and its athletes to a higher level on par with other thriving pro sports. Greater financial reward and recognition for athletes. More entertainment for fans. It’s not easy and won’t happen overnight but we will succeed with your continued support.”

In a year that could only be described as extraordinary, track and field power couple Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall have cemented their places as champions.
The Grand Slam Track meets will have 96 athletes: 48 seasonally-contracted “Racers” and 48 single-meet “Challengers” in a two-race format.
The runners will be awarded $100,000 for winning a race per Slam with the prize money going down to $10,000 which will be awarded to the eighth-place finisher. Grand Slam Challengers will also be paid a set appearance fee besides the prize money.
