Paris Olympic 200m silver medalist Kenny Bednarek has termed the 2025 Grand Slam an incredible opportunity for him to compete at the highest level.

His remarks come amid hesitation from some athletes to compete in the Michael Johnson-organised event next year.

Reigning Paris Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles, and his 200m counterpart champion Letsile Tebogo, remain unsigned for the April-August event. Bednarek, 26, said going toe-to-toe with his rivals will make him bring his A-game into the competition.

"The Grand Slam League is a great initiative by Michael Johnson,” said Bednarek as reported by Athletics Weekly.

"It’s an incredible opportunity to compete at the highest level with some of the best athletes in the sport. I love the head to head concept, emphasis on storytelling, showcasing personalities and a good opportunity for athletes to feature their talent. This league brings a fresh perspective to track and field," he added.

The American is the 2022 world championships silver medalist, having began his career as a 400m runner, Bednarek chose to focus on the 200m, and has since ran a personal best of 19.59 at the 2024 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Bednarek followed that up with his stellar performance in Paris, finishing ahead of Noah Lyles to claim silver as Lyles settled for Bronze. He also redeemed himself by getting the better of Tebogo at the Diamond League Finals as he claimed gold.
