Gout Gout's record-breaking sprint has sparked a dispute between his father and manager over how his name should be pronounced.

Gout Gout’s manager James Templeton has insisted that his name remains unchanged despite his father’s efforts to change it.

As per Fox Sports, Gout’s father Bona revealed that his son’s name was spelt wrongly and plans were underway to have it changed to the original. He revealed that his son’s real name is Guot (Gwot), and he did not want his son to be associated with a disease name going forward.

Gout is a type of arthritis that causes pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness in the joints and Bona does not like it when his son is referred to as Gout.

Following his impressive run this past few days, his father said: “His name is Guot, it’s supposed to be Guot. When I see people called him Gout Gout I’m not really happy for him.

“I know that Gout Gout is a disease name but I don’t want my son to be called a disease name ... it’s something that’s not acceptable.”

However, Templeton remained adamant that the 16-year-old’s name remains the same. He acknowledged that his father might have talked about the name change but revealed that it would not happen.

“Firstly, it is Gout Gout. Yeah yeah, I know there’s been a bit of discussion, and I know his dad made a few comments, but Gout Gout is how it’s gonna be,” he said.

“Categorically, it’s Gout Gout. You know, the thing you hope to avoid in your ankle. That’s how it’s pronounced.”

Gout Gout made headlines this past weekend, clocking a stunning 20.04 seconds in the 200m at the Australian All Schools Championships in Brisbane. His time bettered Peter Norman’s Oceanian record of 20.06 seconds which had stood since 1968.

With his time, Gout Gout also bettered Usain Bolt’s world age-16 best, 20.13 seconds, set back in 2003. Before that, Gout had won the 100m title with a personal best time of 10.17 seconds after clocking a wind-assisted 10.04 seconds in the heats.
