America's teenage sprint sensation Quincy Wilson has revealed just how tense he felt watching Rai Benjamin’s closing strides in the 4x400m relay final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Wilson, who made history as the youngest male US track and field athlete to compete in the Olympics at just 16, was part of the team that qualified the U.S. for the relay final.

Reflecting on the race during a recent interview on the podcast Underdawg Media - Quincy Wilson OLY, he shared the adrenaline-fueled experience of those last seconds.
"I was very nervous, you know, because you are in that position where you are battling for first and second," Wilson said.
"I don't know I was gonna be able to get that medal once I have seen that, once they showed me where the team was."

"It really was just really, about um, I knew and I trusted Rai," Wilson explained.
"He is like the other older brother to me. So I knew he'll get the job done."

The win did not come easily as 4x400m final was marked by its nail-biting finish as Tebogo pushed hard in the last 100 meters narrowing the gap to a razor-thin 0.1 seconds.
Benjamin’s experience and composure, however, allowed him to hold off Tebogo and bring home the gold for the United States. Botswana and Great Britain rounded out the podium, finishing with silver and bronze, respectively.
Wilson’s Olympic journey has already captivated the nation, especially after his standout performance in the heats that helped qualify the U.S. for the relay final.
His nerves and excitement at watching Benjamin and Tebogo’s showdown only highlighted the passion and ambition the young athlete brings to the sport.
During the podcast, Wilson recalled Benjamin’s confidence on the morning of the race, saying, "He said he's gonna get the job done that morning."
Just days after his return from Paris, Wilson, now an Olympic gold medalist, was honored at a September 29 event during the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens game.
The pre-game ceremony celebrated his accomplishments alongside other notable Olympians, including Masai Russell and Angel Reese.
Wilson was introduced to the crowd wearing a Ravens jersey, drawing applause and surprise from fans who were astonished at the achievements of such a young athlete.
