'I just want to be great'- Erriyon Knighton sends message to Letsile Tebogo, Noah Lyles after troubling 2024 season

Erriyon Knighton has set the record straight as he looks to make history in the coming seasons following a huge setback in 2024.

Erriyon Knighton has warned Letsile Tebogo, Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, and all the 200m runners as he eyes redemption in 2025.

The world 200m silver medallist explained that he has always been shy to explore his full potential and once he embraces that, he would be undoubtedly one of the greatest.

He admitted that there is a lot of sprinting talent, especially in this time but he remains unfazed since has his own unique way of doing things.

Knighton added that the Olympic gold medal has eluded him for a long time but he will be out to change the narrative at the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The former world 200m bronze medallist was in action at the Paris Olympic Games but narrowly missed out on a podium place after his fourth-place finish.

“There is definitely a lot of talented people out there but I think I separate myself a lot just because I’m not doing much, I’m not pushing my body to the limit of what I can do,” Knighton said in an interview with Olympics.com.

“I just want to be great…I’m on my way to be one of the best in the sport. I don’t have an Olympic gold, or double Olympic gold…that’s some of the things that motivate me and keep me going.”

Knighton delved deeper into some of the things he loves doing, revealing that he can be laid back or very cocky, just depends on the situation.

Speaking about his speed, Erriyon Knighton made a controversial statement, insisting that one is either born with it or they just don’t have that.

The American youngster seemed to claim that no amount of training can give you speed if you were not born a natural sprinter.

“I can be the adrenaline guy, but I can also be chilled sometimes, it just depends on the situation that I’m in. I’m not going to do something that’s super crazy but I’ll do some crazy stuff,” Knighton said.

“Flipping in the air a couple of times, that’s probably the craziest thing I have done. I feel like you are either born with speed or you’re not, that’s my take on it…it’s not an acquired skill.

"I have been on the Olympic stage, been on the World Championships stages and I have been in front of people, a lot of people at one time. You just have to embrace it.”

The 2024 season has not been that smooth for the youngster who was suspended earlier this year after testing positive for a metabolite of trenbolone.

However, he was cleared to compete at the US Olympic trials after an independent arbitrator intervened and ruled that he might have digested the banned substance when he ate some contaminated meat.

Before the trials, Knighton disclosed that he had not been training well and it was a miracle that he managed to make the team, competing against very experienced runners.
