Keely Hodgkinson has made her feelings known about Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track League.

Keely Hodgkinson is one of the top British stars who has yet to sign with Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track League and she has explained the reasons behind her reason.

The Olympic 800m champion acknowledged that the track league is certainly one of the best initiatives to happen in track and field but it is not her priority at the moment.

Hodgkinson pointed out that she is planning to compete in one of the legs but with how things stand ahead of next season, she might not find time to compete in the track league.

Some of the Britons who have signed with the league include Daryl Neita, Olympic 400m silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith and Olympic 1500m silver medallist and reigning world champion Josh Kerr.

“As of the moment, I plan to maybe do one. I haven’t signed up to do all of them. I feel like it’s a really busy year next year. I think it’s great what Johnson’s doing, I just don’t feel like it’s for me next year and I guess we’ll see where the league goes after that. But I look forward to hopefully doing one,” Keely Hodgkinson said as per the Standard.

Speaking about the world record, Keely Hodgkinson revealed that she will focus on winning the medals first and the records will come later. She has sights on the European and World Indoor Championships first.

Hodgkinson also has eyes on the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan where she intends to win her first gold medal. She won a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships before claiming bronze at the 2023 edition of the event.

“Medals can never be taken away from you, so that will always be a top priority, trying to go to Tokyo and win the World Championships. I don’t have a World Championship gold yet. As long as I can train consistently, and get myself in really good shape, the time and the personal best will come,” she said.

“That’s kind of what happened this year. We were aiming for a 1:54, but we knew that I’d need that to secure a gold medal at Paris. I do think the 1:53 is possible. I think we’re so close to getting down there, but obviously, it takes a special race. You’ve got to be in perfect shape, perfect conditions, the right race for all that to come together.”
