The mother of three has proudly reaffirmed her identity as a gay woman of color, encouraging others to embrace their true selves.
Retired American sprinter and professional basketball player Marion Jones has come out to once again clarify about her sexuality.
The two-time world 100m champion insisted that people should be unafraid of sharing their identities since times have changed. Marion Jones further noted that if coming out helps other people feel safe to speak about their identity, then the 49-year-old will always do so.
Jones asserted that if family and friends have no problem with her sexuality, then that is all that matters and what others have to say is not a bother.
Jones also warned that people would always have negative things to say and that when someone decides to come out, they should be willing to deal with the struggle.

“I identify as a gay woman of color. And you talk about coming out. It’s so interesting that people are kind of coining it like that. I get it. And friends and family understood that for a long time,” Jones said in an interview with SELF.
“I understand the significance of it and I’m not gonna downplay that. But I think for a while I didn’t understand how interested people would be until it was shared with me very eloquently by some friends, that there are a lot of people that struggle with it.
“And that are fearful of doing it and have had to live a life of lying and disguise and pretending to be somebody who they’re not.
"And I understand that life. It helps that, because I’m a bit older than some, people’s negative views on my journey, the decisions that I’ve made in regards to my personal life, their opinion of it all, does not weigh very heavily.”
The mother of three shared her partner, Adele on Instagram in a post last year for the first time and she describes her as a ray of sunshine.
Jones admitted that Adele brings everything nice to the table and disclosed that they had been in a relationship for over 10 years and she has impacted her life positively.

“It’s a relationship that has been for over a decade, and one that has evolved into something magical and beautiful. And you can just probably see in my face how much she means to me. It’s just been wonderful to have her in my life.”
