Marcell Jacobs finished a distant fifth in the men's 100m at the Paris Olympic Games where he intended to defend his title.

Marcell Jacobs has reflected on his performance at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympic games, which saw him finish fifth in the final of the 100m race.

The 2020 Olympic champion sprinter went to Paris with hopes of defending his title but fell shot although he did record an impressive time of 9.85 seconds.

The Italian 4x100m relay team finished fourth in the final, narrowly missing out on the podium.

After the Olympics, Jacobs took a step back and returned to compete at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia where he finished fourth in 9.93 seconds. In a post-race interview, Jacobs expressed pride to be competing.

“I am back and healthy. I am there, with the best ones in the world. I am one of the best in the world. So, for now, I am very glad about this time because, after the Olympics, I felt a bit down. You know, when you worked for many years on something and it did not happen - after the 100m and relay, I was very tired. So, I am happy to come here and achieve 9.93,” Jacobs said.

“I really did not expect it and I just wanted to come here and try to run but after this result, I am very happy because the shape is there and the work has been done well. Now, I have two more races before the end of the season,” he added.

Speaking about the Netflix Sprint docuseries, Jacobs was humbled to be a part of it and explained that it shows fans what it takes for an athlete to be on top of the world.

He added that this season was a challenge for him following the tons of changes he made but come next year, he would have settled and will be ready for the challenge.

“I liked to be a part of the movie. I like it when the people from outside of the track try to understand us. I like that people start to understand, that we are also humans, that we have families, we have to work a lot, we have a lot of problems, that we also have haters. So, people need to understand us. This is one of the best moves for the track and field,” he said.
