Tyson Gay has aimed a playful jibe at Usain Bolt's body weight after admitting he also was not in the shape to return to track if given the chance,
Retired American sprinting great Tyson Gay has dismissed the idea of a return to competitive athletics, candidly admitting he's far from race-ready while taking a playful swipe at his former rival, Jamaican sprinting icon Usain Bolt.
Gay, whose illustrious career includes a personal best of 9.69 seconds in the 100 meters—still the American record and tied for second-fastest all-time with Jamaica’s Yohan Blake—has been enjoying life off the track since retiring in 2021.
However, the 41-year-old revealed his current fitness struggles during a recent guest appearance on Asafa Powell’s YouTube channel.

'I'd rip my hamstring!' - Usain Bolt hilariously reveals the shocking time he would run if he returned to track for one last hurrah
Usain Bolt has revealed the time he would probably run if he returned to the track for one last hurrah.
“I am the heaviest I have been in my entire life. I am like 193 [pounds]. In order for me to even get down on the track, I should be 175,” Gay admitted with a laugh. He added, “Them two are in better shape than I am!” referring to Powell and fellow sprinting legend Justin Gatlin, who joined him on the podcast.
While reflecting on his own shape, Gay couldn't resist taking a jab at Usain Bolt, the world record holder in the 100 meters (9.58 seconds). “I don’t know if it was Photoshop, but I also saw a picture of Bolt recently in the media, and he looked bigger than the last time I saw him,” Gay quipped, hinting that even the Jamaican great might not be race-ready anymore.
Bolt, who recently discussed his own fitness during an appearance on Mikel John Obi’s Obi One podcast, had joked about the possibility of a farewell run. The eight-time Olympic champion admitted that he could manage only a time around 10.5 or 10.6 seconds these days, adding with humor, “I’d probably rip my hamstring.”

While Gay ruled out a competitive return, he hinted at a possible cameo at next year’s Penn Relays in a 4x400-meter event. The race would honor two figures close to his heart: his late Arkansas coach and fellow Olympian Calvin Davis, a 400-meter hurdles specialist.
“I may run a 4 by 4 maybe. It is for a good cause in honor of my coach from Arkansas and one of my fellow Olympians Calvin Davis, who ran the 400 hurdles—they both passed away. So in honor of them, we will see what will happen at the Penn Relays,” Gay shared.
Although he downplayed expectations, saying, “I may run 52.0,” Gay expressed hope that the event could become an annual tribute.
