Athing Mu has taken her fans through the whole process of her engagement went after her Paris Olympic Games setback.

World 800m silver medallist Athing Mu has shed more light on how her engagement with her boyfriend went.

The former Olympic champion revealed that her engagement happened in July, right after the US Olympic trials. At the trials, Athing Mu failed to make the cut to the Olympic team after falling in the women’s 800m final and finishing ninth.

After that, Athing Mu explained that she needed to take time off and she accompanied her boyfriend to Malibu for a mini vacation that turned out to be a proposal. On the day he proposed, the 2022 world 800m champion explained that she had no idea it would happen since there were no hints.

Athing Mu explained that he asked the same question that he had posed when asking her to be his girlfriend and that’s when she knew she was being upgraded to being a fiancée.

“I’m officially engaged…leading into marriage now. This happened in July actually, it was post-Olympic trials heading into…just like after the Olympic trials I was like I need time to just relax because I can’t do anything right now so we went up to Malibu actually, in a ranch so pretty and it was so green and so open,” Athing Mu said on the Jinger & Jeremy Vuolo podcast.

“My fiancée was there with me and we were just hanging out and then one of the days he was like there was a really cool spot and we could have our front yard looking like that because we were talking about homes.

“He took me to that area and we just like hanging out and he told me there was something he wanted to ask me but I knew what he was going to ask because that’s what he said when he wanted me to be his girlfriend. I didn’t suspect anything the whole day because it was a super chilled weekend.”

Following their engagement, the American 800m star shared a post on her Instagram handle, expressing gratitude to God for calming her heart after the disaster at the Olympic trials. She shared a series of photos, captioning: “In a year full of noes, Jesus has blessed me with a YES!”
