Abel Kipsang, aiming for a strong 2025 season after a challenging 2024, is preparing to qualify for the World Championships by building fitness through cross-country races.

Former world indoor championships bronze medallist Abel Kipsang wants to have a great 2025 season after struggling to make an impact in 2024.

Abel Kipsang failed to make the Olympic team after fading to a seventh-place finish at the Kenyan Olympic trials in the men’s 1500m. Kipsang was forced to end his season after the disappointing performance at the Olympic trials.

He has since started preparations towards next season, where his main target will be to make the Kenyan team to the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Speaking after a third-place finish in the men’s 2km race at the 2nd Athletics Kenya Cross country meet in Kapsokwony, Abel Kipsang noted that he believes running in such races would help him have a great build up ahead of 2025.

“I’ve decided to start with the cross country because I’ve been in my off season and last season, I didn’t do well and that’s why I didn’t go to the Olympics. Next year I’m targeting the World Championships and I want to have a great build up towards the same,” Abel Kipsang said.

Abel Kipsang started his season with a fourth-place finish at the Kenyan Cross-country Championships where he finished fourth before heading to the African Games national trials where he finished fourth.

The Kenyan then competed at the African Games where he finished third in the men’s 1500m before finished fifth in the men’s 800m at the Kip Keino Classic. Abel Kipsang then won the 1500m race at the Athletics Kenya National Police Service Track and Field Championships.

He proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, failing to live up to the billing with a 13th-place finish in the men’s 1500m. Kipsang then raced at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix where he finished 14th.

Abel Kipsang then raced at the Prefontaine Classic, finishing 12th in the one-mile race and then went to the Kenyan Olympic trials where he failed to live up to the billing and end his season. He now hopes to have a great 2025 season.
