Benson Kipruto & Brigid Kosgei to lead Kenyan charge in Tokyo Marathon
Benson Kipruto and Brigid Kosgei will lead the Kenyan charge at the Tokyo Marathon against a star-studded Ethiopian-Ugandan line-up.
However, despite the training and hard work, Joshua Cheptegei will have to beat some of the greatest road runners to be among the top finishers.
One athlete who poses a threat to the Ugandan is Benson Kipruto, the defending champion who shocked the masses to take top honours at last year’s edition of the race.
The double Commonwealth Games champion will have to tackle the man who was winning the race as Eliud Kipchoge struggled in 10th place. Kipruto went on to claim a bronze medal in the marathon at the Paris Olympic Games.
Others who will be out to stop the two-time world cross-country champion are Ethiopia's Leul Gebresilase, his compatriot Stephen Kissa, and the Japanese duo of Yohei Ikeda and Akira Akasaki looking to shine on home soil.
