Olympic champion Noah Lyles' dream to compete in four races at the Paris Games suffered a blow. Lyles could not make the US 4x4 relay team and was accused of trying to force his way into the team.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles has said a lot of people were not happy with his decision to be part of the US 4x400m relay team at the Paris Olympics.

The six-time world champion's rise to prominence has not been without controversy after being accused of trying to force his way into the four-man team. Lyles, who bagged the Paris Olympic 200m bronze medal to cap off an outstanding performance in the French capital, maintained that the coaches and athletes who didn't get the chance to run were left upset.

“A lot of people in the US were very, very, very upset that I ran the 4x4,” Lyles told TalkSport. “I can’t give all the details but there were coaches who coached athletes who were on the 4x4 but didn’t get to run, and they were upset about that. They complained to higher-ups about the decision. The higher-ups decided to take action," he added.

As well as the 100, 200 metre races and the 4x100m relay, Lyles planned to participate in the 4x400m relay - just like he did in Glasgow where he helped USA win silver.

The American sprinter wanted to make Olympics history at Paris 2024 and do something not even Usain Bolt achieved but he failed. Lyles, a five-time Diamond League champion, was looking to replicate his success at the World Championships in Budapest, where he won two gold medals at the 100 and 200 metres.

Lyles wanted to become the first man to win four track gold medals and go one step better than the legendary Jamaican undisputed sprint king Usain Bolt. Multiple Olympic champion Bolt landed a sprint triple at London 2012 and Rio 2016, having been stripped of the same feat at Beijing 2008, but Lyles wanted to best the legendary Jamaican this summer.
