American sprint queen Gabby Thomas has opened up on why track and field stars have more truth to what they do as they cannot fake it to make it like in other spaces.

Multiple Olympics champion Gabby Thomas admits track and field is one of the careers where you cannot fake it to make it as what you put in what you get most of the time.

Thomas is among the world’s most revered sprinters, having claimed three gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which made her a global superstar.

However, the 28-year-old says the fame she is enjoying now is a result of years of hard work and not quickly generated since it is difficult to cheat your way to success in the sport.

“There’s so much truth in what we do,” Thomas said in an interview with Vogue, having appeared on the cover of the fashion magazine this month.

“On the track, I can’t cheat four years of hard work and commitment—otherwise I wouldn’t be there. You show up every day, and you work. And win or lose, the emotions that come—you can’t fake that, either.”

The American has dedicated hours, months and years to her sport to ensure she is successful and with her hard work now paying off, she has started embracing other interests.

One of that is her new-found love for fashion, admitting she now takes a closer look at what she puts on and wanting to know more about what went on before it was produced.

“I’ve been so in the athlete-world, I feel like I’m just starting to get a sense of what I like,” added Thomas.

“Not that I don’t have my own style. I do, but then I put on something like that white Carolina Herrera dress that I wore to the show, and it’s like, Oh, oh-kaay. Since then, I’ve been doing more ‘pretty’ looks. And more polished. Same with the hair and makeup, I’m growing with that too.”

Thomas won Olympics gold in 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m in Paris, seeing her crowned the USA Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year and she is looking for more glory in 2025 with the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan the main focus.
