'I don't make enough money...'- Olympic champion Noah Lyles opens up about practical difficulties of managing fame
Paris Olympic champion Noah Lyles explains the challenges of handling fame and battling mental issues at the same time.
Lyles told The Times that his decision was informed by the fact that a double and treble had previously been achieved.
“Well, there have been multiple doubles, not a lot, but there have been plenty. I can grab three but Bolt has done that. I can do two Olympics in a row, but Bolt has done that too," Lyles said.
The six-time world champion said he wanted to achieve something hat could separate him from other world beaters. "What’s left on the table that could put me on my Mount Rushmore, make people say, ‘Not only was he great, but he did something that hasn’t been done’? What I want and expect are two different things. I expect to get multiple gold medals but what I want is four," Bolt said.
He went on: "I can definitely put a downpayment on two, but relays are a bit tricky.” However, it turned out to be completely opposite. Lyles competed in only 100m and 200m and grabbed bronze in the latter. His plan initially was to also run 4x100m relay as well as 4x400m.
