Noah Lyles has opened up about the moment of awakening he faced that pushed him to strive and be the greatest 200m sprinters in the world.

Noah Lyles has seemingly opened up about a 200m loss that changed his worldview for the better and propelled him to be one of the greatest 200m runners in the world.

The American sprint king, speaking in a video shared on his YouTube channel titled ‘The Fastest Man in the World’, seemingly noted that winning a bronze medal at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games pushed him to rewrite that story at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

At the event, Noah Lyles could only afford a third-place finish in a time of 19.74 seconds but bounced back to claim top honours in the 200m at the Hungarian capital last season. The year was undoubtedly one of Noah Lyles’ great seasons as he also claimed the 100m title and anchored the American 4x100m relay team to victory.

In 2022, Noah Lyles was also impressive as he claimed top honours in the 200m, clocking a striking 19.31 seconds for a win. He has been dominant at the World Championships in the 200m, also winning the title in 2019 but the Olympic title has eluded him.

“After that loss, my drive was never the same. I became a different person, I brought in people that I needed to have closer and I excused people who didn’t need to be so close,” Noah Lyles said.

He also opened up about the challenges he faces as a sprinter, revealing that it is not always glamorous. Noah Lyles was quick to note that people only get to see the good side but they never see the work put in to get to the top.

This season, Noah Lyles was hoping to get triple gold at the Olympic Games but could only afford a gold medal in the men’s 100m and a bronze in the 200m after testing positive for COVID-19.

"Being an athlete is a kind of a coin, I would say, you know, one side heads - you see what TV shows you and you see the glitz, the Glamour, the medals, the celebration, the fast running, the fans yelling screaming for you but if you flip to the other side, it's tails. I'd say you would see the hard work, the pain, the failures, the sacrifices,” he added.
