Ese Brume was involved in a serious car crash in the US but is recovering well and remains optimistic.

Nigeria's long jump queen Ese Brume has assured fans of her speedy recovery following a “horrible” car crash in the United States.

Brume, a bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, narrowly escaped severe injury in the accident, which occurred when an SUV collided with the vehicle she was traveling in with a British friend.

The crash left Brume with a sprained ankle and a strained neck, while her friend suffered a strained shoulder, a brain concussion and multiple cuts.

Photos of the mangled car sparked concern among her supporters back home, especially within Nigeria's athletics community.

“I am getting better,” she said in a telephone interview with Nigerian publication, The Guardian on Friday.

“My friend is also recovering fast. I thank all those who sent words across to me. I am hopeful everything will be alright, and I will be back in training soon.”

Brume's resilience comes as no surprise to fans who have followed her illustrious career.

Her Tokyo 2020 bronze medal remains Nigeria’s sole track and field medal at the Olympics after Blessing Okagbare clinched silver in Beijing.

The news of Brume’s accident sent shockwaves through Nigeria, where athletics enthusiasts and fellow athletes rallied around her.

Social media was flooded with prayers and well-wishes, as pictures of the crumpled vehicle highlighted just how close the escape had been.

Brume’s friend, who sustained a concussion, is also reportedly showing signs of recovery.

Despite the setbacks, Brume’s assurance has brought a sense of relief to her fans, who eagerly await her return to full health and competition.

Brume’s bronze medal in Tokyo remains Nigeria’s only track and field medal at the last Olympics, a proud moment for the nation following Blessing Okagbare’s silver medal in Beijing.
