Despite aiming for a podium finish, Weldon Langat placed 12th at the Valencia Half Marathon after travel delays, capping an up-and-down season.

Weldon Langat went into the Valencia Half Marathon with the hope of achieving a podium finish but unforeseen circumstances forced him to post very dismal results.

Weldon Langat was forced to settle for 12th place in the race, clocking 1:00:47 to cross the finish line as Yomif Kejelcha broke Jacob Kiplimo’s world record. Daniel Mateiko came in second as Isaia Lasoi rounded up the podium.

Defending his performance in Valencia, Langat’s management, Ikaika Sports said he had missed a flight and finishing the race after a few stressful hours was proof that he could have run well if not for the mishap.

“In men's race, despite late arrival yesterday due to missed flight, Weldon Langat (@weldon10k) fought with 1:00:47 for 12th,” the management shared on their Instagram handle.

However, that performance does not define Weldon Langat’s form this season as he has enjoyed a great season, starting with a third-place finish at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country Tour.

Weldon Langat then failed to impress at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon where he faded to a disappointing 17th-place in the race won by Daniel Mateiko. He sought redemption in the 10km race at the adizero Road to Records where he finished sixth.

Langat then tried his luck in the men’s 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic, hoping to make the cut to the Kenyan team to the Paris Olympic Games but he faded to a 12th place, his performance not being enough for him to even be considered as a reserve.

Weldon Langat used that disappointment to compete at the tRUNsylvania International 10K Brasov where he finished third before the Valencia Half Marathon.
