Hellen Obiri's shoes generated significant excitement during marathon weekend as On showcased its robot, which sprayed the uppers onto pairs in just three minutes.

Hellen Obiri intended to defend her New York City Marathon title this past weekend but her legs could only carry her to a second-place finish.

Sheila Chepkirui carried the day as she outsprinted Obiri with a few meters to the finish line. Chepkirui clocked 2:24:35 to take the win as Obiri came in second in a time of 2:24:49. Vivian Cheruiyot completed the podium in the race, clocking 2:25:21.

For her second-place finish at the New York City Marathon, Hellen Obiri wore the On Cloudboom Strike LS, a shoe that caught the eye of many during the race. The shoe is not yet available for retail but the price has already been confirmed and it will be going for £330, about Ksh 55,000 when it’s released.

Some of the key features of the shoe include a lightspray™ technology for the lightest-ever upper and it is made without a sock liner to maximize Helion HF content. On Running explained that the shoe has over 40% bio-based Helion™ HF hyper foam for high-speed energy return.

The shoe also has CloudTec® elements to create a faster, smoother roll-through and it has a seamless and responsive second-skin fit. The shoe has an ultra-cushioned ride to protect against impact and its spoon-shaped Speedboard® absorbs and transfers energy. The shoe is also lace-free to minimize distractions.

Meanwhile, Hellen Obiri’s second-place finish at the New York City Marathon showcases her hard work and effort after a long season. She opened her 2024 with a second-place finish at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.

Hellen Obiri then claimed top honours at the Boston Marathon, successfully defending her title. The two-time Olympic 5000m silver medallist proceeded to the Paris Olympic Games where she finished third in the Olympic marathon. The 2022 world 10,000m silver medallist then rounded up her season in the streets of New York.
