Hellen Obiri’s coach, Dathan Ritzenhein, has debunked one myth that implied that she would not be successful in her marathon career.
Dathan Ritzenhein has clarified one misconception that people had about Hellen Obiri when she started her marathon career.
The two-time world 5000m champion made her switch to the full marathon in 2022 and finished sixth, competing at the New York City Marathon.
She then returned a year later, in 2023, winning the race. Hellen Obiri had earlier in 2023 won the Boston Marathon before her heroic exploits in the streets of New York.

He revealed that Hellen Obiri was inexperienced about when to drink water during the race and how to maintain her pace.

Targeting Boston Marathon dominance
)
Now, Hellen Obiri, more experienced and readier to conquer, heads to the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21 eyeing her third title.
Her coach is banking on her to deliver another memorable performance, just like she did in 2023 and 2024. She now has a mastery of the course.
Ritzenhein also hailed Hellen Obiri as one of the best, revealing that she has grown thick skin when it comes to dominating the marathon and she is unafraid.
“They say experience is the best teacher, and she learned big lessons in the first marathon that she has taken to all her other races,” Ritzenhein said.
“When it comes to closing at the end of the race, she is ready for any pace that is thrown at her. She has one of the best finishes out there. So if it comes down to the finish in a non-rabbited race, like Boston, she is going to be hard to beat.”
Only four women, Bobbi Gibb, Sara Mae Berman, Uta Pippig, and Fatuma Roba, have won the Boston Marathon three times and Hellen Obiri is looking forward to add her name to the list on Monday.
