She added that her daughter found it a bit easy to blend in since she is still young, unlike her spouse who is still learning.

Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri has revealed that her family (husband, and daughter) have been a great pillar of support to her since she relocated to Boulder, Colorado.

Obiri, a two-time world 5000m champion, disclosed that it took her some time to adapt to the environment there and she is still learning a few ropes. She moved to Boulder earlier this year before her family joined her later on.

“For the first few weeks, it was a bit challenging since I had to learn how to do things their way. If I want to get something like Managu, I can’t, so I have been forced to look for other ways to survive.

Having my family around has been the most important thing because they encourage me a lot. Sometimes when the training becomes difficult, my daughter always tells me to keep going. They give me 100% support and that’s what I need to adapt,” she told Nation Sport.

She added that her daughter found it a bit easy to blend in since she is still young, unlike her spouse who is still learning.

Obiri revealed that as adults, it has been a challenge to make friends but she is hopeful things will get better as time goes by since they have only been in Boulder for three months.

Speaking on her training, the world 10,000m silver medallist added that she trains with other great athletes who are friendly and she revealed that they look up to her and that motivates her to do better.

“Our training camp has some good athletes who are very friendly. At first, they were afraid of interacting with me saying I am a world champion.

They always say I encourage them and that has given me the strength to keep going,” she said.
