Obiri will be competing in the streets of New York for the fourth time with the hope of making history.

Reigning Boston Marathon Hellen Obiri is more confident of bagging a title when she heads to the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 5.

Obiri will be competing in the streets of New York for the fourth time with the hope of making history. She has a ton of memories of New York since it’s the course she made her marathon debut and finished sixth during last year’s edition.

At the time, she had little to no experience but at the moment, Obiri has exuded confidence and set the record straight on what she wants to achieve as she heads back there. Earlier this year, she won the New York City Half Marathon which is adding onto her motivation.

“With a year of marathon experience now under my belt, a win in Boston, and my move to the US, I’m coming to New York this year with more confidence and in search of a title," she said.

"I’m excited to show the people of New York what I’m capable of and that my win at the United Airlines NYC Half in March was just the beginning."

The two-time world 5,000m champion has been off to a good start this season, losing only one race where she finished second behind Ethiopia’s Senbere Teferi. She opened her season with a win at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon before also reigning supreme at the New York City 21km race.

She then proceeded to the Boston Marathon where she stunned the masses to take top honours and later on jetted into the country for the Kenya Defence Forces Championships where she won the 5,000m race.

Obiri would compete at the Mastercard New York Mini 10K in June where she finished second before continuing her hot streak. She won the B.A.A. 10K and TD Beach to Beacon 10K. Indeed, Obiri will be heading to the New York City Marathon full of confidence.
