Triple Olympics champion Gabby Thomas has expressed her delight after being named USATF Athletes of the Year alongside 110m hurdles king Grant Holloway.

Olympics champions Gabby Thomas and Grant Holloway have been named as the US Track and Field (USATF) Athletes of the Year 2-24, completing what has been a memorable season.

Thomas, who won three Olympics gold medals in 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m relay, was named the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Athlete of the Year while Holloway, the Olympics 110m hurdles champion, is the Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year.

“Versatility across the sprint spectrum gave Thomas a hat-trick at the Olympic Games, where she raced to individual glory in the 200, taking gold by a quarter-second in 21.83, and then helped Team USA to wins in the 4x100 and 4x400,” USATF said via a statement.

“Thomas, who earlier in the summer won the 200 at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, ran the third leg on both relays at Paris and was an integral part of the team setting an American record of 3:15.51 in the longer race. She previewed that double with a pair of golds at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas in May, running the second leg on the U.S. 4x100 and 4x400 teams. Thomas had five sub-22 second 200s on the year, topped by a world-leading 21.78 in the Trials semifinal.”

That has left Thomas delighted with the sprinter taking to social media to celebrate her win.

“Hard work pays off!! See you in Orlando,” Thomas posted on X while looking forward to being honored at the USATF Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida on December 7.

Holloway, meanwhile, was named the Male Athlete of the Year after breaking a world indoor record before winning gold in 60m hurdles while at the World Indoor Championships and then Olympics gold in 110m hurdles.

“A stellar indoor season that featured an undefeated slate in the 60 hurdles and included a world record 7.27 at the USATF Indoor Championships and a World Athletics Indoor Championships gold made Grant Holloway the early favorite for gold in the 110 hurdles at the Olympic Games,” said USATF of Holloway’s season.

“He didn't disappoint as he took the title in Paris by a tenth of a second with a 12.99 clocking. Holloway set his season best of 12.86 in winning the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, and he had six races faster than 13 seconds to go along with four Diamond League wins.”

Meanwhile, Joanna Hayes, coach of Olympics 400m hurdles champion Rai Benjamin, was named coach of the Year while 16-year-old teen sensation Quincy Wilson was named the Youth Athlete of the Year.
