Beatrice Chebet will attempt to break the 5000m world record as she heads to the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich.

Following her dominant exploits at the Paris Olympic Games where she made history, Beatrice Chebet hopes to continue her winning streak at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich where she will be racing against formidable opponents.

Chebet became the first Kenyan woman to win gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m in Olympic history. Vivian Cheruiyot almost achieved the feat at the 2016 Rio Olympics where she claimed gold in the women’s 5000m and silver in the 10,000m.

Chebet was flawless at the Olympic stage and despite much not being said about her, she is surely one to watch when the gun goes off n Zurich. In the Swiss city, the 5000m world record set by Gudaf Tsegay at last year's Diamond League final in Eugene will be in danger as she can use the Wavelight in the Letzigrund Stadium to guide her to another world record in her already decorated resume.

The world 5000m bronze medallist will also be challenged by Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu, who came fourth in the Olympics over 5000m, as well as the European Championship medalists and national record holders Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal of Norway and Marta García of Spain.

This season has been nothing short of impeccable for the 24-year-old who started by setting a world record in the women’s 5km road race on New Year’s Eve. She proceeded to defend her cross-country title at the World Cross-Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

She won her first title as a senior at the 2022 World Cross-Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia. Chebet was not done writing history, competing in her second 10,000 at the Prefontaine Classic, she shattered the world record.

The Kenyan long-distance running sensation clocked a stunning 28:54.14 and became the first woman to run under 29 minutes in the 25-lap race. A debutant at the Paris Olympics, Chebet did not disappoint her fans as she exited the stage with two glittering gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m.
