The British runner made light work of his rivals in Lausanne to claim a win in the men's 400m.

Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson Smith clocked 43.96 seconds to claim the win in the 400m at the Lausanne Diamond League, maintaining his good form.

The Briton, who won silver at the Olympics, ran a dominant race in the Swiss city to emerge victorious ahead of Zambia’s Samukonga Musaza, who finished second in 44.06 as Botswana’s Kebinatshipi Busang clocked 42.22 for third place.

It was a much slower time than what he recorded at the Olympics when he won silver in 43.44 behind American Quincy Hall who managed 43.40 for gold.

Meanwhile, Mukonga, who clocked 43.74 at the Olympics stayed close to him for most of the race but could not catch up in the final stretch.

Just over two weeks since the Olympics, the post-games hangover was on display for most athletes in the race as they struggled to get a form grip on the race.
