Zharnel Hughes is critical of Noah Lyles' track behaviour and trash-talking as he explained why he does not think that benefits the sport.

Zharnel Hughes, Great Britain’s fastest man, has made fun of Noah Lyles’ efforts to try and change the sport, noting that his ways on the track do not impress him.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the world 100m bronze medallist explained that how he views the world of track and field is very different from how Noah Lyles does and he does not like his track rival’s ways on the track.

Zharnel Hughes added that he does not like the trash-talking Noah Lyles does but pointed out that maybe it’s a way to give him confidence. He believes that they are all going for the medals and titles and each athlete has to take their ‘A’ Game to the track on the D-Day.

Hughes was also quick to note that he does not have an issue with Noah Lyles as far as his personal life, outside of the track is concerned.

“At the end of the day, we are serious competitors but it’s not like we hate each other or anything. I personally don’t dislike him, I probably don’t like his ways in regard to how he gets on the track. I guess that’s how he gives himself confidence and stuff but overall, I don’t have any issue with Noah Lyles, I don’t have anything against him,” Zharnel Hughes said.

“I mean, at the end of the day, we are all there fighting for the same medals and stuff, so, I mean, you’re going to bring your game and I’m going to bring my game. We probably might clash, head-to-head because, at the end of the day, we are so driven by our egos. You get to see different characters in us. His ways, I don’t know, I really don’t know. His head turns and my head turns are probably different,” he added.

Speaking about Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track league, Zharnel Hughes explained that it is a great initiative that he would love to be a part of. He added that having something new outside the usual is a great way to build the sport and disclosed that it will bring a new view to how track and field operates.

“I said to my coach and agent that it might be something we might pick because I find it very interesting to have something like that new to the sport of track and field, it gets a bit of head turns here and there, brings a little bit more light to the sport and I want to be a part of that, so who knows, we’ll see,” he added.
