Grant Holloway will not be lining up for the men's 110m hurdles at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels due to monetary disagreements with the meet directors.

Olympic 110m hurdles champion Grant Holloway will not race at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels scheduled for Friday and Saturday (September 13 and 14).

The American hurdler shared the devastating news on his X handle, explaining that his management and meeting organisers did not reach a suitable agreement. He hinted about the issue being the amount of money he would earn, advising athletes not to run for a lesser amount than their value.

Holloway is just fresh from a second-place finish in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Galà dei Castelli and his decision to withdraw from the Diamond League final has broken the hearts of many of his fans who were eager to watch him race against a strong Jamaican cast.

“I will not be participating in the Brussels Diamond League Final due to a failure to reach agreements on the terms of my participation between my team and the meeting directors of the Diamond League. Shame that they doing athletes like that…#BrusselsDL #NeverCompeteForLess,” Holloway shared.

After the Paris Olympic Games, the reigning world champion began his Diamond League final campaign with a second-place finish behind Rasheed Broadbell before proceeding to claim top honours in Silesia.

Holloway then raced at the ISTAF 2024 in Berlin before continuing his Diamond League winning streak to the meeting in Zurich. He was a favourite to end his season on a high with the Diamond League Meeting final and go one place better than his performance last season where he finished second.

However, the 26-year-old still has more to celebrate since he claimed his maiden Olympic title and also shattered the 60m hurdles world record earlier this season. Before the Paris Olympic Games, he also maintained an unbeaten streak, winning the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco and the U.S. Olympic trials.
