Team Kenya topped the medal standings in Africa edging out Ethiopia to second place.

Athletes who represented the country at the just-concluded World Championships in Budapest, Hungary will now smile all the way to the bank smiling after being awarded Ksh 21,600,000.

Team Kenya topped the medal standings in Africa edging out Ethiopia. They also finished fifth in the overall medal standings.

They bagged 10 medals courtesy of triple world record holder Faith Kipyegon who won two gold medals. 'Kisii Express' Mary Moraa also mined gold for Kenya in the women’s 800m to become the third woman to win a medal in the women’s 800m at the World Championships.

Daniel Simiu bagged the 10,000m silver while Beatrice Chepkoech also clinched the 3000m Steeplechase silver medal. Emmanuel Wanyonyi took home the 800m silver medal as Jacob Krop managed to scoop the bronze medal in the men's 5000m. 

Beatrice Chebet also bagged Team Kenya a bronze medal in the 5000m while 19-year-old Faith Cherotich strived hard for a bronze medal in the women's 3000m Steeplechase as Abraham Kibiwott bagged the bronze in the men's specialty. 

Kipyegon was awarded Ksh 4 million for bagging two gold medals while Moraa will walk away with Ksh 2 million for bagging the 800m world title. 

Wanyonyi, Chepkoech, and Simiu will walk away with Ksh 1.5 million each for bagging silver medals in the global showpiece. Meanwhile, Chebet, Krop, Kibiwott, and Cherotich were awarded Ksh 1 million for their bronze medals. 

All the finalists in the global showpiece including Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and trailblazing youngster Ishmael Kipkurui received Ksh 50,000. The team officials and delegation will also be awarded cash rewards which were not mentioned by Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
