Gout Gout shatters Usain Bolt's record again: Australian star boy blasts to 19.84s for incredible 200m title in Perth

Unarguably the most exciting sprint talent in the world presently, teen sensation Gout Gout took down another Usain Bolt's record with an astonishing 19.84s to win the men's 200m final at the Australian Athletics Championships in Pertth.

Teen sensation Gout Gout has taken down one of Usain Bolt's records again, after blasting to a jaw-dropping 19.84s (+2.2m/s) to win the 200m title at the Australian Athletics Championships in Perth on Sunday.

In a nail-biting 200m final which saw his stiffest competitor Lachlan Kennedy disqualified for a false start, the 17-year-old shrugged off the nerve and rose to the occasion with a composed start and maintained his speed technique through the curve to the homestretch as his last 80m did the magic, pulling away from the rest of the field to clock the astonishing time.

He outclassed the field by a huge margin as Aidan Murphy settled for a far second in 20.40s.

Despite the time not counting as an official personal best due to the excessive wind reading of +2.2, Gout's mark is the second-fastest in U20 history under all conditions behind Erriyon Knighton's 19.49s set in 2022.

With the time he also rose above Bolt's 19.93s on the U20 all-time conditions list, continually living up to the hype as the heir to the Jamaican legend's throne.

Gout's exceptional 200m victory was a follow-up to his 100m success on Day 1 (Thursday) of the championship with an astonishing two sub-10s run on the same day.

The teenager clocked 9.99s (+3.5m/s) to win his U-20m 100m heat, before coming back with the same blistering time in (+2.6m/s) wind in the final. Unfortunately, neither time counted as his official Personal Bests (PB) or records as both were assisted by illegal winds.

Gout had never dipped under the 10s mark before as his previous PB was 10.17s, but now added the achievement to his promising young career.

Gout Gout's remarkable 2025 season so far

He has been in jaw-dropping form this year, running a 200m world-leading time of 20.05s in March, just 0.01s outside his Australian record of 20.04s to break the long-standing Oceania record in December last year.

Following this up he became the first-ever Australian to break the 20 seconds barrier in the 200m, running 19.98s at the Queensland State Championships. Sadly again the time also won’t stand as an official record because of illegal wind conditions (+3.6m/s).

These consistencies have proven beyond doubt that the youngster being compared as the heir to Bolt's throne isn't just a fallacy but he's the next big thing on the sprint track.
