Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has hallowed the 10-second barrier in the 100m in a feat that places global stars like Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson firmly on notice.
The 17-year-old teenager lit up the Australian National Athletics Championships in Perth, clocking a blistering 9.99 seconds in both the heat and final of the under-20 100m on Thursday.

However, neither time will be officially recorded due to illegal tailwinds — 3.5m/s in the heat and 2.6m/s in the final, both above the 2.0m/s limit.

Gout Gout Eyes Global Stage with Confidence and Composure
Despite the tough weather conditions denying him a place in the record books, Gout remained upbeat and focused.
“Sometimes it’s frustrating, but you know, you can’t control what you can’t control, and the wind is obviously a thing you can’t control, you’ve got to learn how to run with it or run against it,” he said after the final as per Guardian.

Gout is now just the third Australian in history to run a sub-10 100m in any conditions, joining Patrick Johnson, who officially holds the national record at 9.93s, and Rohan Browning, who clocked 9.96s with a 3.3m/s wind in 2021.
Despite drawing headlines in 100m it is the 200m where Gout has already made history as he owns the national record of 20.04s, set last December.

Gout is set to compete in the open 200m on Sunday where he will face off against Lachie Kennedy, the 21-year-old who beat him out at the Maurie Plant Meet just two weeks ago.
“Sub-10 is something every sprinter hopes for and to get this early in the season is definitely great,” Gout said.
“So to gain that sub-10 definitely boosts my confidence, especially for my main event the 200.”

Cameras flashed, the crowd roared, and whispers of a 2025 World Athletics Championships breakthrough began circulating before he even left the track.
“This is what Athletics Australia needs, this is what we wake up in the morning for, this is what we train for, and I couldn’t ask for anything better,” Gout added with a smile.
