Newly crowned double Olympics champion Beatrice Chebet has been honored with a promotion by the National Police Service (NPS) following her remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The 24-year-old Kenyan athlete captured the hearts of millions worldwide with her electrifying finishes in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.

Ferdinand Omanyala has reacted to his performance at the Paris Olympic Games, where he bowed out of the men's 100m title contention after finishing eighth in the semifinal.
Chebet clocked a stunning time of 14 minutes and 28.56 seconds in the 5,000m, clinching gold ahead of fellow Kenyan Faith Kipyegon and Dutch powerhouse Sifan Hassan.
Her prowess was further displayed as she took home the 10,000m title in a time of 39:43.25, outpacing Italy's Nadia Batocletti and once again Sifan Hassan.
A statement from the NPS detailed the accolades of the athletes at a reception held at Jogoo House in Nairobi, led by Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli.
"Acting Inspector General of the National Police Service Gilbert Masengeli on August 14, 2024, received NPS athletes who represented Kenya in the just concluded Olympic Games Paris 2024, at Jogoo House 'A'. The acting IG expressed gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and discipline," the statement read.
"The Ag. IG Mr. Masengeli henceforth promoted Beatrice Chebet and Abraham Kibiwot to the rank of Corporal on Merit. Corporal Chebet, a record holder in 10,000m, won two Gold M medals after impressive outings in 5000m and 10,000m races, while Abraham Kibiwot won a Bronze medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase," it added.

During the ceremony, Masengeli praised the athletes for their discipline and commitment, which he noted as pivotal in their success.
He also urged them to maintain high ethical standards, particularly in avoiding doping malpractices.
Deputy Inspector General of the National Police Service, Eliud Lagat echoed Masengeli's sentiments highlighting the role of the NPS in fostering sports within the service.

Double Olympics champion Beatrice Chebet will earn the highest amount from the Team Kenya contingent in at the Paris 2024 Games thanks to her heroics in 5,000m and 10,000m.
At the same event, other NPS athletes who excelled at the Paris Olympics were recognized.
These included gold medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi and bronze medalists Cpl. Mary Moraa (800m) and Senior Sergeant Julius Yego (javelin).
Kenya's performance in the Paris Olympics was historic, with the nation securing eleven medals, four of which were won by NPS officers.
This achievement placed Kenya as the top African nation and 17th globally in the overall Olympic standings.
