Having taken over as Omanyala’s coach in late 2023, Kimani has also taken his younger brother, Issac Omanyala under his wing and revealed the plan to make him the next big thing.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s coach Geoffrey Kimani has revealed how he will develop the star sprinter’s brother Isaac Omanyala after also taking him under his wing recently.

Omanyala, just 19, has taken after his brother, who has inspired a generation of sprinters to try their luck in the sport.

Omurwa started his professional career this year and he has posted promising times owing to the fact that he is just a youngster.

He won the 100m at the East Africa Under-20 Championships before also donning the Team Kenya jersey at the Africa Under-20 Championships in Zambia.

In the continental showpiece, he doubled in the 100m and 200m and managed a sixth-place finish in the 100m, thus failing to proceed to the final in the 200m.

He was also in action at the National Championships and the World Championships National Trials earlier this year, where he posted impressive times competing with the senior athletes.

Now, Kimani has revealed his plan to make Isaac an even better version of his brother

“I took that kid, he was doing 10.8s, now he is doing 10.3, but his target for this year is 10.4. Even if he runs a 9.9, I am not looking at it because it is progressive, so he gets a 10.4 then we progress to the next season,” Kimani told Sport On

“We follow what we call the 5-10 (Percent) rule.Your training should always increase by five percent every season and now it also informs us of what we see. How many junior champions transform to become senior champions? Very few.”

Kimani has revealed that he will not look to rush Isaac, instead, will let him learn his ropes gradually in order to enhance longevity in his career.

“The ages that they are, they are trained by elite athletes, so the thresholds are already bursted when they are still young.

“We follow what we call a long term athlete development pathway. At this age group, this kid is supposed to be doing this and this only.

“We move to the next age group and this is what he is supposed to be doing, that way, you have athletes who have longevity and can be on top for a very long time.”
