Gabby Thomas has shared shy she feels there is need to advocate for more equal treatment of women in sports.

Paris Olympics 200m champion Gabby Thomas opines that women deserve the same opportunities as their male counterparts for them to thrive in sports and life in general.

Speaking to the Fairchild Studio on the Power of Women Empowerment, the 27-year-old American sprinter added that while she's proud of her success, equal representation helps cultivate the next generation of female athletes and leaders, ensuring continuity in the global-renowned sport.

"When women are treated equally in sports, it sends a powerful message to young girls and women everywhere that they are just as capable, valuable and deserving of success as their male counterparts."

The American who guided the USA 4x100m relay team to the gold medal in Paris, observed that by embracing equality, the broader societal norms will be challenged. "It’s important that they see women excelling at the highest levels and getting the recognition they deserve so they know they can dream big."

"Equality helps cultivate the next generation of female athletes and leaders. In advocating for equality in sports, we are challenging the broader societal norms that have historically marginalized women."

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Thomas won the bronze medal in the 200m and a silver as part of the women's 4 x100m relay. Thomas claimed silver at the 2023 World Championships.

Gabby Thomas is back in training ahead of the 2025 grueling season as attention turns to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
