American sprint queen Gabby Thomas has shared her excitement at being part of the Athlos NYC event which she hopes will help break more barriers for women in track and field.

Gabby Thomas feels the Athlos NYC, the women’s-only track event set to take place in New York on Thursday, is the beginning of women pushing beyond the barriers in the sport.

Thomas will be the headline act in the 200m race that has Australian Torrie Lewis and Americans Jenna Prandini, Tamara Clark, Brittany Brown as well as Anavia Battle and as she looks forward to the inaugural event, she is grateful that women have something of their own.

“This is bigger than myself and it’s bigger than this race. It’s bigger than just the six of us lining up. It’s really about what we’re doing for women’s sports,” Thomas told CITIUS Mag.

“What this event particularly means for women’s sports and for track and field, it is not lost on us how big this event is.

“We love running and every lady who is here just wants to line up in the 200m race and all the other races and just love competing and we are going to share that with the world and hopefully push the sport wide as we can.”

The Athlos NYC, spearheaded and funded by Alexis Ohanian, the husband to tennis star Serena Williams, is one of the most lucrative track meets, with each winner set to pocket $60,000.

Gabby Thomas will be joined by a number of global superstars such as Faith Kipyegon, Alexis Holmes, Mary Moraa, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn among others many others competing in 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 800m and 1500m races.
