Cole Hocker believes he could beat Fred Kerley in a 600m race, but Kerley humorously dismissed the challenge.

Cole Hocker believes he can beat Fred Kerley in a 600m but from Kerley’s reaction, Hocker might just be dreaming of that and might never actually beat him.

In an interview with Grand Slam Track, the reigning 1500m Olympic champion analysed the suitable race in which he would beat Fred Kerley and his conclusion was a 600m race. He noted that competing against Kerley in a 400m race would be a gamble since the quarter mile is one of Kerley’s special races.

For the 500m race, Cole Hocker explained that it might take time for him to catch up with Fred Kerley after the 400m and the American sprint king might beat him, insisting that the 600m race would only be the ideal race for both of them and he would be sure to take the win.

He added that after 400m, speed is no longer needed and athletes now need to incorporate their strength if they are to do well going forward in the race.

“I think the 600m plays, I think I would win that, I think that’s strength. That’s fair to say but obviously, he would beat me easily in a 400m, so I’m thinking somewhere in the 500m. However, Fred might still have it in the 500m,” Cole Hocker said.

“Maybe I’m giving myself the benefit of the doubt in the 600m even but after the 400m, it turns to strength, like distance strength and he is going to gap me by like 20m and then I’m going to come back.”

In the video posted on their social media, Grand Slam asked Fred Kerley for his thoughts: “What do you think, @fkerley99?” Fred Kerley could not say much as he only replied with a series of laughing emojis.

A series of one vs one races have been making headlines recently in the world of track and field with the latest being Noah Lyles taking on YouTube star IShowSpeed in a 50m race. Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm also challenged each other in a 100m race at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich.

Fans would definitely be excited to see a 600m race between Fred Kerley and Cole Hocker in the coming days.
