Former 100m world record holder believes Noah Lyles has the potential to do magical things this season following his great form.

Former 100m world record holder Maurice Greene believes triple world champion Noah Lyles is in a better position to shock the world this season.

Greene explained that Lyles is the defending world champion in the 100m and 200m and has been in greater shape than most sprinters. Speaking about 60m world record holder Christian Coleman, Greene noted that he still has time to get into better shape.

The four-time Olympic champion also insisted that the times being posted by athletes at the start f the Olympic season are wanting but expressed confidence that they will pick up their momentum as time goes by.

“It’s early in the year and you would expect to see faster times that have been run already by this time in an Olympic year but I see it’s really wide open right now.

“The next couple of weeks is really going to tell a lot and see who’s coming into form and coming in the shape and who can stay healthy and do what they need to do.

“Well, you have to give Noah the edge on favour because he is the defending champion from the World Championships, so you have to give it to him until somebody can come and take it away from him.

“The 60m and 100m are different but I believe Christian is going to be there and I believe he is going to come into form and he is going to make a challenge for anyone who steps up,” he said in an interview with American outlet Citius Mag.

He added that double world record holder Usain Bolt was an anomaly but also noted that there is nothing impossible as long as there is technology.

Greene added that the reason why athletes have not been posting faster is because of the back-to-back championships that have hindered them from focusing on running faster times since the focus is on winning titles.

“Usain is an anomaly and you have to take him out of the picture but I mean, I think it has to do how these last couple of years have been playing out because normally we would have breaks in between but they haven’t had any breaks whatsoever.

“I never say anything is impossible. Even when I was competing, it was always about breaking barriers and they always said we would never run 9.7 and I managed to run 9.7 and after I did, everybody wanted to do it.

“It’s about believing that you can do something impossible or believing in yourself that you are capable of doing something,” he added.
