Africa’s fastest woman Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith will be out to end her difficult season in style at the season finale in Brussels but she is up against top rivals both 100m and 200m.

Africa’s fastest woman Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith is among athletes under pressure to end their season in a positive way during this weekend’s Diamond League Final in Brussels.

Ta Lou-Smith has endured a tough season but will feature in two events at the Diamond League Final which should provide some respite if she performs well although she is up against runners who have floored her all season.

The Ivorian sprinter finished eighth in 100m at the Paris Olympics after suffering an injury during the final which locked her out of the 200m race.

She then saw her Ivory Coast team disqualified after the 4x100m relay, to end her Olympics campaign on a sour note.

On the Diamond League circuit, Ta Lou-Smith has also had tough outings as despite featuring in six meetings, she is yet to register a win.

The 35-year-old is among sprinters with more Diamond League appearances this season but victory has proved elusive, having managed second places in Stockholm and Silesia, fourth in Lausanne and Zurich, fifth in Monaco and sixth in Eugene.

Of those meetings, the races in Stockholm and Silesia did not have the big hitters, adding to her disappointment but she will have to do it the hard way in Brussels.

Ta Lou-Smith will run in both the 100m and 200m in the Belgian capital for a chance to win the Diamond League Trophy and the $30,000 prize on offer but she faces familiar foes.

In 100m, she is up against Olympics champion Julien Alfred and world champion Sha’Carri Richardson, considered favourites in the race, as well as Britons Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita. American Tamara Davis is also in the race and so is Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye from The Gambia, who have already floored her this season.

It does not get better for Ta Lou-Smith in 200m where Richardson is the headline act and she is joined by three other Americans in Brittany Brown, Tamara Clark and Anavia Battle.

Ta Lou-Smith’s Ivorian compatriot Maboundou Kone is also in the race with Neita joined by another British runner in Amy Hunt.
