Africa's fastest man has lined up key events this month as he seeks to complete his roller-coaster 2023 campaign in style
After exiting the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary without a medal, Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has shifted focus to the Diamond League Meeting final in Eugene, Oregon scheduled for September 16 to 17.
Omanyala reached the final of the men’s 100m but unfortunately faded to finish seventh in the race. At the same time, Botswana’s wunderkind Letsile Tebogo made history by becoming the first African to win a medal at the World Championships.

ATHLETICS Where to watch Emmanuel Wanyonyi vs Marco Arop live in action in Xiamen as Kerley & Jacobs seek redemption
The Chinese City of Xiamen is the next stop of the Diamond League and Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Wycliffe Kinyamal will be among those in action as well as Kerley & Jacobs
However, Omanyala has now put the performance behind him and will be looking to make a statement when he heads to Eugene, Oregon. But before then, he will also participate in two races, the Gala Castelli Meeting in Switzerland and another event in Zagreb, Croatia.
“It was a blessing to get to that final but of course I had expectations which were not met. I know what went wrong and our main aim is to work on that before next year’s Olympic Games in Paris," he told KBC TV.
"Right now, I’m taking it slow as I look to complete my season because it’s been a long season since February.
"The races will be a preparation for me as I head into the Diamond League Meeting final. That’s the main one and the last one for me this season."
After the Diamond League Meeting Final in Eugene, Omanyala will take a six-week break before coming back to training ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where he intends to return with a bang.
During the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Omanyala was knocked out of the competition in the semi-final but he will be returning to get a medal.
