Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has explained the details of his preparations that are giving him confidence of a successful Olympics Games.

Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is excited by his Olympics preparations as he puts final touches before getting into the Olympics Village.

Omanyala has been training under the watchful eye of his coach Geoffrey Kimani and feels a focus on more intensity is keeping him in good shape to run faster times when it maters most at the Olympics.

The Commonwealth champion has the world's second fastest time this year, after cloking 9.79 at the Kenyan Olympics trials in June and says he has had to tone it down a bit so that he does not utilize everthing before the actual competition.

"After doing 9.79 in Nairobi, the coach said we have to go down a bit because it was a big distance from the Olympics. We need to run those times at the Olympics so coach said we need to tone down a bit," said Omanyala.

"We did a lot of stuff before we went to Hengelo and we went there and it was rainy and slippery so we could not say it was a perfect race but a win is a win.

"In Miramas pre-Olympics camp we have been doing a lot of intensity work because now it is more intensity and less of volume, which is hard because it is less recovery. It is low altitude area and I am excited with 12 days to go."

Omanyala has dipped under 10 seconds twice this year, having run 9.98 at the Prefontaine Classic in May and has reduced the number of events to avoid peaking up too early or burn out before the Olympics.

His last race after the Olympics trials was the BFK Games in Hangelo, Netherlands on July 7 when he clokced 10.01 and remains hopfeul of a successful Olympics after a semi-final exit in Tokyo three years ago.
