Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala finished second in the men’s 100m at the Gala dei Castelli in Bellinoza, Switzerland on Monday night.
Omanyala clocked 10.04 to finish second behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville who won the race in a time of 10.01. South Africa’s Akani Simbine completed the podium in a time of 10.13.

The Commonwealth Games champion had gone into the global showpiece in the form of his life and Kenya’s hopes rested on him to deliver but he failed to live up to the expectations.
Despite becoming the first Kenyan to reach the final in the men’s 100m in the championships, Kenyans expected him to finish in the podium bracket and make history by becoming the first African to win a medal.
However, Omanyala faded and finished seventh in the hotly contested race as Botswana’s wunderkind Letsile Tebogo made history by medaling at the event. Tebogo finished second behind American Noah Lyles.

Ferdinand Omanyala drops to second in Diamond League Meeting standings after Xiamen showpiece
Omanyala has been to four Diamond League Meetings so far and his focus is now on the Meeting in Eugene, USA.
Reigning World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot was also in action at the Gala dei Castelli in Bellinoza to heal the World Championships heartbreak. He won the men’s 1500m in a Meeting record time of 3:33.98.
South Sunda’s Dominic Lobalu and Great Britain’s James West finished second and third respectively. Another Kenyan, Kyumbe Munguti finished fourth in a time of 3:35.52.

ATHLETICS Mary Moraa hoping to extend winning streak in Brussels
Moraa has been unbeaten in the 800m this season and she will be looking to maintain the consistency.
On his part, Wiseman Were, competing in the men’s 400m Hurdles, faded to finish fifth in a time of 48.94. Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos carried the day with a Meeting record time of 47.50. Frenchmen Wilfried Happio and Ludvy Vaillant finished second and third respectively.
