Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has explained the time targets he is looking at before heading to the Paris Olympics.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is still disappointed that he has not run between 9.8 and 9.7 seconds so far but remains hopeful that he will reach those heights at the Olympics.
Omanyala strolled into the 100m final during the Athletics Kenya Olympics trials at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday.
He clocked 10.09 seconds to win his semi-final ahead of Pius Adome, who timed 10.70 for second place, while Moses Onyango (10.80) completed the podium.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi to appeal after missing out on 800m final following costly fall
World 800m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi intends to appeal for a place in the 800m final after tripping and falling in his semi-final during Olympics trials.
“The Olympics in Paris will be much bigger so we are not taking any pressure from such events, just making ourselves better and just making sure we peak at the right time,” Omanyala said.
“I am expecting a lot of stuff from the Olympics because I have not run 9.8s and I know what it feels to run 9.8s and 9.7s and I am just praying that it comes at the right time at the Olympics.”
Omanyala has only one sub-10 seconds this season, the 9.98 clocked at the Prefontaine Classic last month, having managed 10.03 at the Kip Keino Classic in April before 10.02 at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica early this month.

Multiple world champion Faith Kipyegon kept her dream of doubling at te Olympics alive as she sealed her 5,000m ticket in style followed by Beatrice Chebet.
The Commonwealth champion’s race came after former national champion Mark Otieno had won the first semi-final after clocking 10.26, followed by Meshack Babu (10.31) and Benson Okot (10.70).
Otieno is yet to hit the Olympic qualifying mark of 10 seconds and is keeping his fingers crossed that he will seal his ticket at the final.
“Anything is possible, if we make the cut, we will have a strategy and to plan for Paris,” said Otieno.

Will more sprinters join Ferdinand Omanyala in chasing Olympic glory as national trials beckon?
The Olympic trials are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday with more sprinters hoping to join Africa's fastest man Omanyala in the quest for Olympic glory.
Hesbon Ochieng (10.44) won the second semi-final followed by Tyson Juma (10.54) and Sylvester Simiyu (10.58).
Omanyala remains the only Kenyan sprinter who has hit the Olympics qualifying mark and the other runners will have to up the ante in the final to seal their tickets to Paris.
