Ferdinand Omanyala is not feeling the pressure from fans ahead of the D-day at the Paris Olympics where he makes his second Olympic appearance.
Omanyala made his Olympic debut at the delated 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games but did not make the final after faltering in the semifinal of the men’s 100m. Heading to Paris, he hopes to do better.
The Commonwealth Games champion claimed that the pressure is not coming from fans but from himself since he wants to do better in each race. He explained that assessing his own performance has helped him learn from his mistakes and make necessary changes, whether big or small.

“I can’t say the pressure from people is what makes me perform, I believe it’s y own pressure. When I go back to the drawing board and asses my performance, I look at how the preparations to those races has been,” Omanyala said.
“That made me change my coach and I changed a lot of things including my team. Such things make me look back and want to do better for myself,” he added.

Speaking of the pressure from fans, Omanyala noted that he understands what they want but this season, he wants to manage their expectations.
He explained that he will not make promises until he gets to the final of the men’s 100m race at the Paris Olympics.
“I understand the pressure coming from fans because even in football, there is such. However, I wouldn’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself. Of course, there are many expectations but this year we are managing that by not promising much,” Omanyala said.
“This year I just want fans to be hopeful because the competition is tough but we are going to show up very tough. We should wait and get to the final first because anything can happen.”
