Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is chasing history at the Olympic Games alongside his African brothers Akani Simbine and Letsile Tebogo.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is looking forward making history with his African brothers Akani Simbine and Letsile Tebogo at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Omanyala noted that he found Simbine in the sport and has been looking up to him since, noting that it is his wish to have the South African in the final.

The Commonwealth Games champion added that youngster Tebogo was in great fashion last season, winning silver in the final of the men’s 100m at the World Championships in Budapest and will be out to impress.

He added that, however, they would have to get through the challenge of the preliminaries and semifinal before making it to the final. Omanyala’s wish is to have the three of them at the starting line and hopefully, they all make it to the final.

“Yes, I’m glad that I joined Simbine, I found him in the sport and I was looking at him before I even joined the sport and I will be so happy to see him make that final,” Omanyala told CGTN Sport.

“Tebogo is a silver medallist from last year’s World Championships and I’m sure he’ll be in the final. It’ll be a blessing to have three Africans in the final. However, we can’t think about the final when we haven’t talked about the heats. I hope all of us will make it to the start line and get to make history,” he added.

Speaking about his greatest inspiration, the African record holder noted that he seeks motivation from the man in the mirror. He noted that he has managed to break his barriers and he gets better each day, something he loves about himself.

Omanyala is aware that winning an Olympic medal will not be an easy task but he noted that it would definitely mean a lot to him. At the end of the day, it will be all about who will be the healthiest and strongest.

“Everyone going into that race will want that medal and at the end of the day it will be all about who the healthiest will be and who will be mentally stable. I’ll say myself for now, because every time I’ve been breaking the records that I’ve been setting and I have been getting better with each race,” he said.

“Every day I look in the mirror and see a different person from eight years ago. I’d say that has been an inspiration,” he added.
