Femke Bol is excited to compete in Brussels feeling at home as she seeks her fourth Diamond League title.

Olympics women’s 400-meter hurdles gold medalist Femke Bol is feeling at home as she prepares to compete in the 2024 Diamond League Finals in Brussels.

With a standout season behind her, including three Olympic medals and two World Indoor Championship titles, the 24-year-old Dutch star is ready to cap off her year on a high note as she seeks her fourth consecutive Diamond League crown.

Bol, who will compete in the 400m hurdles at the Finals, reflected on the atmosphere in Brussels during a press conference ahead of the event.

She recalled how the energy of the local crowd helped her push through fatigue last year.

"Yes, for sure, I can remember from last year it was I think the first one after Budapest almost and I was pretty tired, but this crowd is so amazing and it really feels like home so I'm really looking forward to it," she shared.

"Everyone is a bit tired. But with a crowd like that you don't feel it anymore."

The Brussels Diamond League holds special significance for Bol, not only because of the supportive crowd but also due to her connection to Belgium.

Bol has been in a relationship with Belgian pole vaulter Ben Broeders, the 2017 European U23 champion, which deepens her ties to the European country.

For Bol, racing in Brussels is almost like competing in front of a semi-home crowd, which she believes could give her an extra boost as she eyes victory.

The 2024 Diamond League Finals offer more than just another title for Bol as the stakes are high with a cash prize of USD 30,000 (3,870,000) and a coveted wild card for the 2025 World Athletics Championships up for grabs.

In addition to these rewards, the prestigious Diamond trophy will be awarded to the winner in each discipline, a prize that Bol has claimed three times already.

Despite her incredible success this season, including her Olympic triumph in the 4x400m mixed relay, silver in the 4x400m women’s relay, and bronze in her signature event, the 400m hurdles, Bol remains motivated to finish the year on a high note.

She admitted that while she wasn’t entirely satisfied with her individual performance in Paris, she is determined to bounce back in Brussels.

In a lighthearted moment during the press conference, Bol was asked about an exhibition race she would enjoy.

She did not hesitate to mention her friend, British middle-distance runner Keely Hodgkinson, who also had an outstanding season, winning gold in the 800m at both the Paris Olympics and the European Athletics Championships.

"I would actually love to run with Keely Hodgkinson in 600m. We're good friends but um it's a bit far. So, I have to think that through really well," she said

Bol will aim to solidify her position as one of the sport's top athletes by claiming another Diamond League title, all while relishing the support of the "amazing" crowd that has become a vital part of her journey in Belgium.
