Multiple world champion Faith Kipyegon has earned over Ksh50 million in 2023 alone and has explained how she is putting the money to good use

Multiple world champion Faith Kipyegon has explained how he invests the money she earns from her athletics career.

Kipyegon, who broke three world records in 1,500, the mile and 5,000 in a space of two months before winning two gold medals (1,500m and 5,000m) at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary has had a remarkable season.

The mother of one then claimed the Diamond League Trophy at the Prefontaine Classic, ending the season with over Ksh50 million earned, and she is putting the money to good use if her latest revelation is anything to go by.

“We try to invest and show other athletes that if you get something, just invest,” Kipyegon told Citizen TV.

“Buying land and other things. I like maize, I farm maize a lot. Recently when there was subsidised fertilizer, we planted a lot. Now we are harvesting,” she added.

Kipyegon seems to have followed the path of many athletes in the country who have invested their earnings in property and farming in readiness for life after sports.

Cases of former athletes wallowing in poverty after retirement have been widespread and the three-time 1,500m world champion seems to be keen not to be among that statistic.

The 29-year-old has taken a two-month break from her busy schedule to refuel ahead of the grueling 2024 season which will culminate in the Olympics Games in Paris, France.

A lot more is there to be won which will still earn her much more as she trains her sights on winning three straight Olympic gold medals in 1,500m.

Kipyegon has also expressed her desire to go for the more lucrative marathons in the near future, meaning she is set for a bumper harvest if she stays injury free.
