Kipyegon has reflected on her dominant 1500m performance in Rome on Friday night, explaining her number one priority for the rest of the season.

Faith Kipyegon has revealed her target for the rest of the season after she dominated the 1500m of the Rome Diamond League classic on Friday to seal qualification for the Diamond League final which will take place in Zurich later this month.

Kipyegon continues to prove why she is one of the greatest middle-distance runners of all time, as she extended her winning streak in the event.

Fresh off her third consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris, Kipyegon showcased her exceptional finishing power, pulling away from her competitors in the final 120 meters to secure victory with a time of 3:52.89.

The triumph marks her second Diamond League win of the season, following her record-breaking performance in Paris in July, just before the Olympics.

In a post-race interview, Kipyegon expressed her satisfaction with the race, especially given that it was her first competition since the Olympic Games three weeks prior.

“I am so happy. I am satisfied with the pace and with how the race went. It was all about qualifying for the Diamond League final, about getting the points. I enjoyed the race, but I did not see the time,” she shared.

Rome holds special significance for the Kenyan star, as it was in this city that she first shattered the 1,500m world record.

Reflecting on her experience, she said, “Golden Gala is a great meeting, last year I broke the world record at Golden Gala. The world record was not for today with the Olympics only two weeks ago. For the rest of my season I expect to perform well in my races.”

Kipyegon’s 2024 season began later than usual due to an injury that sidelined her from the PreFontaine Classic in May.

However, she made a strong comeback, winning both the 1,500m and 5,000m at the Olympic trials in Nairobi, which earned her a spot at the Paris Olympics.

Her stellar performance at the Diamond League in Paris, where she broke the world record, set the stage for her continued dominance.

As the season progresses, Kipyegon’s focus remains on maintaining her form and performing well in the upcoming Diamond League final. With her current momentum, she continues to be a formidable force on the track, leaving fans and competitors alike in awe of her unparalleled talent.
