Multiple world and Olympics champion Faith Kipyegon has shared how she sought to motivate a young girl in the US by gifting her the running spikes from her impressive 2024 campaign.

Faith Kipyegon has revealed how she motivated a budding athlete in New York by gifting her the spikes that she has been using during the season.

Kipyegon is coming off a successful season that saw her conquer the Olympics to win a third straight gold medal in 1,500m as well as silver in 5,000m and also claimed the Diamond League trophy, for the fifth time.

She ended her season by claiming victory at the Athlos NYC, the women’s-only athletics event, where winners of each discipline were earning $60,000, and after the final race, she sought to encourage the young athlete to reach the pinnacle of her career.

“I gave them [spikes] to a young girl who told me she runs 1,500m and I decided to motivate her with the spikes,” Kipyegon told CNN journalist Larry Madowo in Amsterdam on her way back to Kenya.

The mother of one then expressed relief that the tough season is now over as she looks forward to spending time with her loved ones.

“I am going to have fun, have holiday with my daughter, my family they have missed me,” added the 30-year-old.

Kipyegon’s season also involved Diamond League wins in Paris, where she lowered her own world record to 3:49.04, as well as victory in Rome before she went on to defend her title at the final in Brussels.

She will be looking forward to the 2025 campaign where further history can be written if she manages to win a fourth world title in 1,500m at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
