Nyahururu-based runner Virginia Nyambura has opened up on how Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon are motivating her to stardom in the 5000m.

Youth Olympic Games 2010 champion Virginia Nyambura is keenly following in the footsteps of double-world record holder Faith Kipyegon.

The Nyahururu-based athlete expressed her love for Kipyegon and reigning World Cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet and noted that the duo always motivates her.

Speaking during the second Athletics Kenya meet held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nyambura explained that she is just making a transition to the 5000m and so far, things are looking up for her.

She managed an impressive second-place finish in what was her second 5000m race. Faith Chepkoech took top honours in the hotly contested race.

“At the moment, people like Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet really motivate me…watching them compete is my joy.

"Someone like Faith transitioned from the 1500m race to the 5000m and she did amazingly well and I believe even for me, switching from the 3000m to 5000m, I believe I will conquer,” she added.

Nyambura also expressed her elation towards running the 12.5 lap race and noted that she is enjoying every bit of the race.

“This is my second 5000m race and it was good, I absolutely enjoyed the race. 5000m is very fine for me and I'm already running the race. I’m yet to achieve the good times but I know I will hit the good times as I progress,” she added.
